Route scheduling & planning tools

Cal-ITP has partnered with Remix to make powerful service planning and scheduling software available to agencies across California. Through the Software Licensing Program (SLP), any agency can purchase Remix’s tools at pre-negotiated rates. In addition, select transit agencies may qualify to receive free access through Cal-ITP’s Remix program. The program’s mission is to facilitate efficient transit operations, clearer reporting, and a better rider experience.

Get access to Remix Planning, Scheduling, and/or GTFS management:

  1. Prepare: Gather your project team to determine what, if any, support is needed to initiate the project, evaluate the tools, and ensure your service schedule is up-to-date
  2. Purchase any combination of software from SLP or check eligibility to apply for the free program, which runs runs now through December 30, 2027
  3. Launch: Start using your modules, following Remix's tutorials as needed

A mudslide blocked the direct route from Santa Paula to Ojai in Ventura County, turning a 30-minute commute into over 2 hours. It lasted for months. We were able to draw up an emergency shuttle route in Remix in only a few days. Our executive director said, ‘This is amazing!’ and was very impressed with how quickly we were able to create the route and get it up and running.

Commonly asked questions

If my agency already has Remix, can we still apply?

Yes. Other eligibility requirements still apply. Please note if you’re actively using Remix and apply for a free license through the program, you may have some additional eligibility considerations that will be evaluated on a case by case basis. If you have questions about your existing contract, please share them directly with your contact at Remix.

How many seats/licenses are available for access?

Both agencies that have purchased software off the SLP and received free access will be given seats to onboard all members of their team.

How can I ensure my schedule data is ready to import into Remix?

Review California's transit data guidelines for more information on high quality schedule data.

If my agency doesn’t qualify immediately, how long will we have to wait to get our license?

We cannot make an exact determination on when an individual agency may be eligible for funding. We encourage agencies to apply as early as possible, regardless of whether or not they are immediately eligible, as we aim to continuously admit qualifying applicants as soon as capacity allows.

When does the free license expire?

All free program licenses are set to expire on December 30, 2027 and access to the platform will end. Agencies can opt to extend or renew via purchasing through the Software Licensing Program.

Will this program set us up to offer GTFS Realtime information?

Yes, GTFS Schedule data is the first step to getting GTFS Realtime data. Explore state MSAs for real-time data.
